The Surprise!!

This engagement was definitely one for the books, and it was a very special one to my family as well! This beautiful engagement was for my sweet sister-in-law, Kelly, and soon-to-be brother-in-law, Seth!

A few months ago, Seth reached out to tell me he was getting ready to propose to Kelly. From there, we spent the next few months planning their engagement. He knew he wanted it to be as much of a surprise as possible, so we had to come up with a simple plan that wouldn’t make Kelly suspicious.

We decided to tell her that I was planning a photoshoot at the beautiful Hidden River Events in Asheville, North Carolina, and that I needed her to be a model for the shoot. Thankfully, she agreed, and our plan worked just as we had hoped! Kelly had no idea what was actually waiting for her that day, and she ended up saying yes to both me about being in the photoshoot AND to Seth when he asked her to marry him!

Everything was going according to plan until the day of the proposal arrived, and we realized the weather might not cooperate. We were in the middle of Hurricane Isaias, and the forecast was calling for rain. After talking with Seth, we decided to go for it anyway and make the most of whatever the weather brought. Looking back, I think it all turned out beautifully, and Kelly got the surprise of a lifetime! Being able to capture such a special moment for two people who mean so much to my family made this engagement even more meaningful to me.

The rainbow was just the cherry on top!!

Okay, even though we were STRESSING about the rain, the day ended with the sweetest surprise that I just had to capture! After the weather settled down a bit, a rainbow appeared! After all the planning that went into making this proposal special, seeing that rainbow felt like the perfect way to end the day. It was such a sweet, unexpected moment and a beautiful reminder that sometimes things work out even when the plans don’t go quite as expected!
